“Immediate” is the ideal state of attention. That is to say, it is a state of being in which all that exists is the present moment, without any thoughts of the past or the future. pay attention to what you are doing when you are doing it.If you eat, for example, just eat. If you read, just read. If you’re eating and thinking about your bills or what’s on TV tonight, then you’re not in a state of news. If you are reading and not fully concentrating on the act of reading, then again you are not in the present. Regardless of what you are doing, if you are thinking of anything else, then you are not mindful and not in a current state

When you are not mindful, not here and now, your current peace of mind may be disrupted by an imminent future event for no good reason. For example: do you remember when you were in high school and you had to take a very important exam? It was Friday and the test was to take place on Monday. You went to a party that night and enjoyed the party for several hours when it happened! What happened? Suddenly, thoughts of impending ordeal crossed your mind and your night was ruined. You have tried not to think about the test but to no avail, your present happiness has been destroyed by thoughts of a future event.

Understand that if I asked you how you feel, I am not asking you how you felt yesterday or how you think you will feel tomorrow. I ask you how you feel right now. If you were to respond to me by saying “Right now, I’m feeling great” then that’s fine because now that’s all there is. Tomorrow will always be beyond your reach and yesterday is gone forever. All you have is now. This is the only reality.
